First Spec Scripts Done

So I completed two spec scripts last week. The first is a two part episode of "The Office" and the second an episode of "The Simpsons." Not sure what I will work on this week, but I am thinking of "Battlestar Galactica" and "All My Children."

Focusing In

So last week I went down to part-time hours at my day job, and am now spending two full days a week writing - and last Thursday and Friday was the start.

I actually made a lot more progress than I thought. Before, I was struggling to write at night, after work, and could not seem to focus. Now that I have a longer block of time I am able to relax, have some thoughts come to me, and actually start to develop ideas through to fruition. Very cool.

So I have been trying a lot of different styles as I try to dial in to what I might be good at. At the moment, I am thinking that TV writing might be the style that suits me best. I'm going to try and knock out some spec scripts and see what I come up with.

Long Weekend Break

I took the Independence Day weekend to rest and recharge my batteries - - and I found that a lot of story ideas drifted into my head when I wasn't trying so hard to focus on being creative.

So, I bought myself a small notebook, full of graph type paper, for me to note down ideas as they come to me. That seems to be working pretty well.

Slow going..

On July 14 I start working a new schedule at my day job that will give me more time to focus on writing. However, the lead up to that new schedule is crazy. I feel like I am working two full time jobs as I continue my IT work and also try to ramp up for the writing thing. The person who coined the phrase "don't quit your day job" knew what he or she was talking about in terms of prudent decision making, but I am not sure how this is all supposed to work. Ah well, enough moaning, and back to it.
